The Direct Express Debit MasterCard is issued by Comerica Bank in accordance with a MasterCard International Inc. license. Comerica Bank serves as a fiscal agent of the US Treasury Department. Direct Express is a prepaid debit card which is used for electronic transfer of social security benefits. No sign up fees are required. Cardholders do not have to cover monthly account fees as well. Any credit lines are not provided. The Direct Express card can be used to transfer funds to a bank account, make purchases, pay for gas, and buy money orders. Cardholders cannot deposit private finance to the card.
